Happy 21st Birthday!

Meet 'Chanel'. She is a dachsund who today celebrates her 21st birthday (equivalent to 120 human years), making her the oldest dog in the world! She made the Guinness Book of World Records and is celebrating at the New York Dog Spa & Hotel with a giant doggie vanilla cake.

Chanel was adopted by Denise Shaughnessy 21 years ago from a shelter in Virginia. Denise fell in love with two dachsunds, but could only afford one of the $25 adoption fees required, and picked the little white wired hair one, liberated her and named her Chanel. Denise then met and fell in love with Kyle Shaughnessy, married him, and went on to adopt three other dachsunds since they have been married.

Chanel has outlived them all.

She must wear tinted goggles to protect her elderly cataract ridden eyes, but that doesn't stop her from doing much. And too often she gets cold, even in summer, so Chanel always wears a cozy yet stylish sweater to keep the chill away. Generally she dines on chicken and whole grain pasta (never regular pasta!) mixed into her dog food, and once a day has a glucosomine treat. Fellow dog owners take note! Good to know, good to know....

Happy 21st Birthday! Just goes to show you, Chanel NEVER goes out of style.....
